Disaster Risk Reduction and Training

Flood & Water Safety Training

Drowning and flooding are a threat to the people living in refugee camps or informal settlements. MOAS has developed specialised programs to offer local partners unique and innovative Flood and Water Safety training.  The training equips individuals with the skills to perform rescues in the event of water-related emergencies, thereby helping to reduce the risk of drowning and save lives.

The equipment is made by local tailors as part of a livelihood initiative, creating jobs and income for vulnerable households.

Fire Response

In response to the increase in the frequency and severity of outbreaks of fire in crowded refugee camps, the MOAS team developed a one-of-a-kind Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) project for Fire Safety and Response. MOAS’ initiative addresses the life-threatening dangers posed by fires and is deploying easily transportable Mobile Firefighting Units, whilst MOAS’ technical experts train volunteers in fire response.

The volunteers learn how to prevent the spread of fire and extinguish it, thereby saving lives.

They also learn techniques for the equipment that reduce the risk to firefighters and enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.
